Adult Membership

Your membership is good for 1 year. You can buy it for $40 or earn it with 6 hours of volunteering. You can drop in for a day-use for $5. Membership gives you access to our tools and help from our mechanics during open hours only. The Bike Kitchen expects everyone to respect the space and the volunteers and has the right to refuse access to those who do not regardless of their membership status.

Youth Membership

Those under the age of 18 have access to free membership until they turn 18 years old. You must show some proof of age such as a school ID. Any youth under 16 will require an adult 18 or over to be responsible for them if they are in the shop during any regular or class hours unless authorized by a staff member to be working without one. Find out more about youth membership.

Digging Rights

Using a frame and parts from our used inventory, you can build your own bike with the help of our volunteer mechanics. Digging rights can be purchased ($40) or earned through volunteering (six additional hours). While actively building your bike, you can store it at the Bike Kitchen. This program is open only to Bike Kitchen members. Please remember that storing your project with us does not guarantee it’s safety and the Bike Kitchen is not responsible for your bike. If you leave your bike hanging at the shop, please remember to put a tag on it with your name, phone number and date. You must continue working on it within every 2 week period. *Please update the tag’s date each time you come in to work on the bike.

WTF: Women / Trans* / Femme

WTF night offers women, trans* and femme specific hours to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. We encourage WTF folks of all skill levels to experiment and explore while learning bike mechanics and maintenance in a comfortable atmosphere. Come experience the satisfaction and joy of building, fixing or souping up your own bike; experienced WTF mechanics are available to lend guidance as needed. WTF is every 2nd and 4th Monday evening from 6:30-9pm. Women Trans* Femme (WTF) hours are open to anyone who identifies as female, transgender, femme, genderqueer, trans-masculine, trans-feminine, or feels that their socialization or treatment as a woman, transperson*, femme has impeded their participation in bicycle mechanics. Join our Meetup group for the most up to date WTF events!

Why it exists?

At the Bike Kitchen we try our best to facilitate an inclusive and empowering environment that is friendly and safe for all community members. However, we recognize that sexism and gender discrimination are strong forces that effect women/trans*/femme people in their everyday lives and can also be present during general shop hours at the bike kitchen. We are proud to provide a space where women, trans* and femme folks can celebrate and share their skills amongst each other.

Ways to support WTF night

Respect the space. If you do not identify as a woman, trans* or femme person, please come to the shop during other open hours. T, W, Th 6-9pm, Sat 12-3pm. Tell all of your female and trans* friends about WTF night and encourage them to attend! Educate yourself, become more aware of women’s and trans* issues.

Classes

Learn how to fix and maintain your bike at our bike maintenance classes. You can learn and ask questions of our volunteer mechanics during our regular open hours, but for more detailed and focused instruction you can take our classes. Classes are scheduled about a month in advance and tickets are sold on our eventbrite site.
